My favorite things to EXPERIENCE, EXPLORE & EAT in San Diego

Experience Belmont Park

Belmont Park is a historic oceanfront amusement park located on Mission Beach. When the park first opened in 1925, the big draw was the large wooden roller coaster called the Giant Dipper. That coaster still stands today (although partially refurbished) and can be seen from miles away. What I like about this park, is that you can go to the beach and catch a few rides or play a couple of arcade games without having to purchase an entry ticket. Each ride requires a set number of tickets. Belmont Park is a historic oceanfront amusement park located on Mission Beach. Explore Ocean Beach

San Diego is much more laid back than the rest of the California coast, and Ocean Beach is the epicenter of this reputation. Each community in San Diego has their own appeal. In Ocean Beach, or OB as locals call it, you are surrounded by hippies, craft beer, beach bums, surfers and stoners. The OB Pier is a popular local fishing spot with amazing panoramic views that extend from Sunset Cliffs to Pacific Beach and La Jolla.

Eat at Dukes in La Jolla

Anytime we have visitors, I always take them to Duke's in La Jolla. I have never been disappointed. There are two floors of seating with views of the ocean, seaside cliffs and mountains. On a clear day, you can see Catalina Island in the far distance. If you plan to come to Duke's, certainly come before sunset and I suggest to make reservations in advance.

Bike Along the Harbor

If you are living in or visiting Downtown San Diego, then this 5-mile bike ride is perfect if you just want to get out and enjoy the beautiful weather and take in the amazing views. When I have visitors staying with us, this is always a trip I recommend. I probably take this ride at least a couple times a month and I still stop to take photos every time because there is always something that catches my eye. I'll give directions and descriptions from the Cortez Hill area of Downtown since that's where I live, but you can obviously begin anywhere - just make your way west to the harbor.
